Description

Inspired by one of my favorite, Costa Rican fruits, my painting titled “Piña” features a vibrant portrayal of a pineapple, a simple subject, with vibrant color and detail, symbolizing the intricate tapestry of Costa Rican life, controversy, and economics. As a significant agricultural export, it symbolizes economic prosperity while also shedding light on underlying issues such as labor practices and environmental impact. “Piña” unfolds as a visual narrative, weaving together the stories and resilience of Costa Ricans working in pineapple plantations, infusing a human element into this seemingly ordinary fruit. The intention behind this piece is to initiate discussions on sustainability, ethics, and the delicate balance between economic development and the well-being of those contributing to the cultivation of this iconic symbol of Costa Rica.
